Renewable Fuels Nebraska Applauds Federal Action to Encourage Sustainable Aviation Fuel
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that
upcoming federal rules around eligibility for tax credits related to sustainable aviation
fuel (SAF) will feature the Department of Energy’s GREET model — a crucial step
towards ensuring that ethanol and other renewable feedstocks produced in
Nebraska can be used across the aviation industry.
Friday’s announcement comes just a few months before the federal government’s highly-anticipated updates to the GREET methodology, including regulations determining what fuels will qualify as SAF.
Renewable Fuels Nebraska Executive Director Dawn Caldwell issued the following
statement in response:
“This federal guidance is promising — but there’s still a lot to be done to make sure
that the Cornhusker State can fuel the world sustainably and responsibly.
“The Treasury Department took a step towards that kind of certainty with its announcement. Now, RFN calls on the Biden Administration to update the GREET model with the same eye towards encouraging a vibrant and competitive marketplace — because, as we all know, a level playing field is all Nebraska farmers and producers need to do what they do best: Deliver world-class products and win.”
